March Book Giveaway

The Year of Small Things: Radical Faith for the Rest of Us
by Sarah Arthur and Erin F. Wasinger

This book was chosen by our Communications Director, Aleah Marsden. She writes:

I had the privilege of witnessing this book come to fruition, and can wholeheartedly say that Sarah and Erin practice what they preach. (Also, their tone isn’t too preachy!) The stories of the year they spent living out twelve radical faith practices, focusing on one small action item per month, are honest and often pretty funny. I was inspired to imagine what it could look like in my family to intentionally pursue simplicity, hospitality, accountability, sustainability, and social justice together. I especially appreciated their inviting down-to-earth tone; I never felt judged or guilt-tripped. I could relate to their struggle to find meaningful ways to live out their faith in their suburban family context.

A favorite quote: “If your church doesn’t have any poor people in it, something is weird.” See what I mean about the tone? Ha! I appreciate how they present the importance of fostering relationships with those living in poverty. Relationship building within the local church is one of the reasons we at Living Bread seek to specifically plant churches among the global poor.

When Patrick in Bárbara launched Living Bread Ministries in 2004 they had to embrace poverty. For several years their family lived well below the poverty level. They diverted everything they could into sparking a church planting movement among the global poor. This is the encouraging story of how the Lord sustained them and ultimately established our comprehensive church planting ministries in South America and Southeast Asia.
