In Genesis 12:1-3 God promises to bless Abraham and to make of him a great nation. The Lord also says He will bless Abraham so that he would be a blessing, that all the families of the earth will be blessed through Abraham and his descendants. This blessing is ultimately fulfilled in Christ. However, the fullest understanding of this promise realizes that God desired to work through the descendants of Abraham to tangibly bless the nations. The world would be a better place because of God’s blessing upon Abraham and his descendants.

From the beginning, when God commissioned Adam and Eve to manifest His righteous reign in the world (Genesis 1:26), the Lord established that He desires to work through His people. This was the case for Israel. It is still God’s desire to work through His people and for the Church to manifest His righteous reign in the world. Our community should be blessed because local churches exist and ultimately the world should be better off because of the Church.

This understanding of the purpose and mission of the local church guides how we engage in church planting among the global poor. We believe that every Christian, no matter how poor, can be a blessing to their community. This is why we come alongside local church planters in the poorest parts of the world to support the work they’re doing to bless their neighbors and make disciples through the local church. Under the authority of King Jesus, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and for the glory of the Father we desire that our community and the world will be blessed through the work of Living Bread Ministries.
