Our comprehensive approach to church planting among the global poor works best when our church plants have a building to gather in rather than homes. Most of the people we minister with live in housing that is constructed from scrap materials and is very small. Often six to eight people live in the small one or two room shack, so having the church gather there is not always possible. When you add the feeding, education, and discipleship ministries our churches undertake, these homes are just not a viable long term option.
Typically, we rent a space for the church to meet in the beginning. Once a church has shown longevity and buy-in from the community, we help them secure a permanent building. Our church plant in Capão da Canoa is at this stage. The property we are currently meeting in is for sale, and we would like to purchase the building. Buying this building will dramatically reduce their expenses and provide housing for the pastor. Both of these benefits will help the church essentially become self-sustaining and secure their long term future.
The purchase price for the building is $17,000. There will be some remodeling the church would like to do to optimize the space and the pastor’s housing. They will be responsible for funding this and supplying the labor. Our goal is to be able to purchase the building in the next several months. If we can secure this building the funds that are currently going toward rent can be redeployed for more church planting efforts in other places. Will you consider making a special donation to help the church in Capão da Canoa secure this building and their future?
