Imagine listening in the dark as your toddler cries himself to sleep. The ache in his stomach is the result of routinely having to go hungry. As a parent of three healthy children I cannot imagine how hard this would be, or what I might be willing to do to get the food my children need. This is the daily struggle of many women in rural Southeast Asia, and why so many of them end up leaving home and working as prostitutes in cities.

Lack of adequate food, education, and medicine combined with exploitation and a fallen worldview together trap families in a downward spiral of hopelessness. While these may seem to be overwhelming obstacles, we at Living Bread Ministries have a proven track record of helping the global poor.

For almost 14 years our comprehensive approach to church planting has been impacting communities in South America and Southeast Asia. Only the gospel and the presence of a local church can bring long term transformation among the global poor. While our church plants work toward this goal they are also equipping the local body of believers to meet basic needs for food, medicine, education and more within their communities.

With the generous help of our ministry partners we have made a significant impact over the years. We have built successful, indigenous leadership teams in the regions where we serve and are prepared to dramatically increase our global church planting efforts. Currently, there are several exciting opportunities in Thailand and Cambodia—both countries where less than 2% of the population identifies as Christians.  Our efforts in Brazil are expanding into the Northeast region, the poorest in the country. In our newest church plant, in the city of Cabrobó, the poorest residents still live in mud-walled huts.

By God’s grace we have built a world class ministry that is ready to move to the next level. We have a proven track record of establishing self-sustaining churches in some of the poorest communities on the planet. We have experienced indigenous leaders in place and ready to launch many more comprehensive church plants. The remaining piece of the equation is consistent prayer and financial resources. Would you prayerfully consider investing in this work? We have done all we can with what we have. Now we wait upon the Lord to answer our prayers and provide the resources we desperately need to reach some of the poorest people on the planet. Will you be part of His answer? I hope you will join us in this important kingdom work.
